Scholarships provide students the opportunity to pursue higher educational goals and in many cases make the college and university experience accessible to students who might not otherwise dream of a college education. Through donor-funded scholarship funds, the Foundation awarded nearly $1.3 million to students pursuing a post-secondary education in 2017 — and has awarded over $11.8 million since 1995.
The Public Education Foundation’s service-learning project helps teens discover that they can make a positive difference in their community by providing them with a unique perspective. Established in 2008, We R Community catapults high school students into the world of philanthropy and nonprofit organizations by transforming the teens into donors. The program introduces students to the importance of leadership, service, philanthropy and the nonprofit sector by giving them the ability to fund programs they choose.
