The education community mourns the loss of Tina Jacobson, a beloved mentor, teacher, and guiding light for countless educators and students. Tina’s legacy, built over years of dedicated service as a Teacher FastTrack Recruit Mentor and as a cherished member of the Eileen Conners Elementary School community, is one of boundless compassion, unwavering encouragement, and a deep belief in the power of teaching.
A Passionate Educator and Inspiring Leader
Dr. Karen Marentic, Principal at Eileen Conners Elementary School, captures Tina’s impact beautifully: “Mrs. Jacobson brought a deep passion for teaching and a tireless commitment to student success every single day. Her dedication to our school’s vision — to create meaningful opportunities for all children, both in and out of the classroom — was truly inspiring. Whether she was leading a lesson, collaborating with staff, or offering a listening ear to a student in need, Mrs. Jacobson always gave her full heart. Her ability to connect, to uplift, and to lead with kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working with her.”
Tina’s leadership extended beyond her own classroom. She was a steadfast source of support for her colleagues, a mentor who understood that teaching is as much about nurturing dreams as it is about imparting knowledge.
The Heart of a Mentor
Tina’s work as a Teacher FastTrack Recruit Mentor touched the lives of both new and seasoned educators. Her mentee, Ruth Ponce, shared, “Tina was amazing! Her call was always on time! She really helped talk me through everything with learning to believe that even after all the years, I could still go back to school and do it! She left a sense of ‘Yes I can do this’ feeling in me! She always believed that I can do it, one class at a time!”
Tina’s encouragement, reliability, and genuine belief in others helped countless teachers find confidence and purpose. Her legacy lives on through the successes of those she mentored, who now continue the cycle of inspiration and growth.
A Lasting Impact on the FastTrack Community
The Teacher FastTrack Team remembers Tina as a pillar of their mentor community: “Tina was a steadfast member of our mentor community who always had a word of encouragement for not only our mentees, but our team. We were honored to have her as a constant collaborator in the success of those we support, and so looked forward to moments to connect with her in our Office Hours Sessions or one-on-one calls to catch up and keep each other motivated. Tina’s spirit remains with us all as we continue to do the work of supporting Nevada’s future educators in her memory.”
Words from Tina: A Dream Builder
Tina herself defined her calling in her own words:
“I look at myself as a mentor to my students and colleagues when they need help. I have helped several new teachers to the profession. What I have found out, from both my own experiences and observed experiences, is that new teachers need more than the question, ‘did you understand everything’? They need the tools to help them become stellar teachers and dream builders in their own right. I like to give these teachers more ‘tools’ for their own use. I work with them in their areas of concern and help them make the ideas their own. I like to listen to their ideas and help them find a path to their own goals. In this way the implementation of these skills will be more seamless. This is one of the more gratifying ways I get to teach and help make a difference. I get the chance to help even more students reach for their dreams through helping my colleagues reach their own dreams. I hope that each new teacher stays with the profession and makes our community stronger by bringing their light and joy of teaching to our students. I hope that what I do will also be passed on to other colleagues and thus making our entire profession stronger. I am a teacher, and I hope to be a dream builder.”
Carrying Her Legacy Forward
Tina Jacobson’s legacy is woven into the fabric of every classroom, every educator, and every student she touched. Her compassion, her belief in others, and her commitment to building dreams have set a standard for us all. As we remember Tina, we honor her by continuing her work: uplifting each other, believing in the impossible, and shaping a brighter future for education — one student, one teacher, one dream at a time.
