An essential stop for public school teachers, who are gathering classroom supplies for the school year, is The Public Education Foundation’s Teacher EXCHANGE.
The Teacher EXCHANGE – a year-round resource center for public school teachers that can save them hundreds of dollars annually in out-of-pocket expenses for classroom supplies – officially opens July 11 for the new school year.
A 2013 study commissioned by the National School Supply and Equipment Association found, on average, that teachers spend about $500 in out-of-pocket expenses annually on classroom supplies; many teachers spend much more than that amount.
The Teacher EXCHANGE operates on a points system. Licensed professionals in public schools receive 500 points for a $25 donation. Donations offset some of the Teacher EXCHANGE’s operational expenses.
During the summer – from July 11 through August 12 – the Teacher EXCHANGE is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Once the school year begins August 14, the Teacher EXCHANGE is scheduled to be open for shopping on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
