LAS VEGAS (Sept. 25, 2016) – The Public Education Foundation raised about $600,000 at its annual Education Hero Award Gala at the Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas on Sept. 24. More than 450 guests attended the gala honoring leaders who have made outstanding contributions to education and the community.
The Foundation honored Kirk V. Clausen and Wells Fargo with its Education Hero Award, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman with its Lifetime Education Achievement Award, and Tony F. Sanchez III and NV Energy with its Champion of Children Award.
“The Education Hero Award Gala was truly remarkable with wonderful performances and memorable moments,” said Judi Steele, President & CEO of The Public Education Foundation. “This year’s honorees have been steadfast advocates of improving public education, and we are grateful for this community’s continuing support and thank everyone who attended our event.”
Clint Holmes and Niki Scalera entertained guests, and the event also showcased several student performances to pay tribute to the honorees as well as mark the Foundation’s accomplishments and 25-year anniversary. Among the schools and organizations contributing to and performing at this year’s gala were Green Valley High School Jazz Combo, Centennial High School Interpretive Dancers, Green Valley High School Strings, Clark High School Strings, Las Vegas Academy Guitar Quartet, Las Vegas Academy Studio Artists, Odyssey Charter School of Nevada, Social CirKish and Sierra Vista High School Army JROTC.
The Education Hero Award Gala is The Public Education Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser. Proceeds from the event support the Foundation’s programs and initiatives designed to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Southern Nevada’s public schools.
