A decade ago, Dr. Celine Coggins founded Teach Plus, whose programs place highly effective teachers at the center of improvements in schools as leaders among their peers as well as outside their schools, influencing policy decisions that affect their classrooms. Teach Plus has grown to become a network of more than 24,000 teachers nationwide.
While working with the teacher leaders at The Public Education Foundation, Dr. Coggins recently dissected the divide between the world of policy makers and teachers. Teachers wrestled with the challenges of big picture decision-making and developed methods to hone their own personal message delivery to stakeholders such as policymakers.
During a break in one of the sessions of the Teacher Leader Academy, Dr. Coggins discussed opportunities for teacher leaders with the shift to site-based management in the Clark County School District.
